Event organizer to welcome 3,500 local students at second-annual half marathon
LOS ANGELES (July 6, 2017) – Conqur Endurance Group today announced the expansion of its partnership with Students Run LA (SRLA) to include the Pasadena Half Marathon at the Rose Bowl on January 21, 2018. The partnership provides subsidized race entries to approximately 3,500 students who will have the unique opportunity to finish on the field at the world-famous Rose Bowl as part of their preparation to run the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon in March.
“We are very pleased to expand our partnership with SRLA, which has had a tremendous impact on our local students and their communities,” said Tracey Russell, Chief Executive of Conqur Endurance Group, organizer of the Pasadena Half Marathon & 5K at the Rose Bowl. “We firmly believe the unique and rewarding experience the students will encounter at this great event motivates them to successfully complete the marathon en route to high school graduation.”
“SRLA would not have found the success it has had influencing so many young lives across Greater Los Angeles without the historical support and partnership of the Los Angeles Marathon and Conqur Endurance Group,” said Marsha Charney, SRLA Executive Director.
The partnership between Conqur and SRLA has evolved significantly over nearly 30 years. What began as a grass roots effort by high school teacher Harry Shabazian, challenging at-risk secondary students to experience the benefits of goal-setting and improved health by training for and completing the Los Angeles Marathon, has developed into the largest program of its kind in the country.
Since the SRLA program was launched 29 years ago, more than 63,000 high school students have benefited from participating in the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon. The partnership between Conqur and SRLA is indicative of Conqur’s commitment to expand youth initiatives through long-term collaborations which have a direct and lasting impact in the local community.
The Pasadena Half Marathon & 5K at the Rose Bowl features a picturesque half marathon course through beautiful Pasadena, passing landmarks like the Colorado Street Bridge, Old Town Pasadena and Cal Tech University. The 5K run takes runners around the Brookside Golf Course. Both the half marathon and 5K runners will experience a magnificent finish on the field inside the world-famous Rose Bowl, exclusively available to runners at this event.
